Ditch the car and move more.
Compared to previous generations, people are less active and spend more than seven hours a day sitting at work, in front of the TV or computer screen and driving cars.
This inactivity or sedentary behavior, according to the NHS, is classed as a “silent killer” which can increase your risk of developing chronic diseases like heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, some cancers and obesity.
Despite this, people find it difficult to find the time to move more but one of the easiest ways of fitting activity into your day is through active travel.
Swap the car or public transport for walking, running or cycling. If you still need the car for work or shopping, then just park a little further away so you could still walk or run a little more.
Rather than drive your kids to school, you could encourage your children to walk to school with a school walking bus.
These are just a couple of suggestions. Below are further resources including maps, route planners, apps, challenges and services that exist to help you with your active travel.
